Just a few days after it was reported that the Philadelphia Eagles would hire Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Doug Pederson as the next head coach of the team, today the team made it official. The team could not make it official until the Chiefs were knocked out of the playoffs, which happened this past weekend.

This season as offensive coordinator as Kansas City Chiefs, Pederson was a part of one of the biggest turn arounds in NFL history. He helped turn a 1-5 team into a playoff team winning 11 straight games to end the season. With the offense ranking 27th in the league, 30th in passing, and 6th in rushing.

Chiefs offense did rank 30th in the league, for any team that is pretty bad especially for a playoff team. Most of the blame will have to go on the passing game. The passing game could not get going this season, even though the team had success. Most of the teams success was due to the fact that the team had a solid running game, even when Jamaal Charles went out for the season and having a amazing defense.

During his tenure with the team, Pederson has not improved the offense as coordinator. Pederson’s offenses has ranked at the bottom every year during his tender with the team. Even though he has Alex Smith at quarterback, that is no excuse why the team should be ranked at the bottom for back to back seasons.

Eagles could of hired a better guy then Pederson to take over for Chip Kelly. There were people like Hue Jackson and Sean McDermott. Both of these guys would have been a great choice as head coach, before Jackson was hired by Cleveland Browns. He would have been a leading canadate. The team did not really attempt to hire any of them. With Pederson, I’m not sure if the offense will improve, but we will wait to see what he does and what his results are on the field this upcoming season and beyond. Right now the team did not hire the right guy in Pederson, but that could change in the future.

Pederson has some pieces in place with the team already on offense, with players like Sam Bradford, DeMarco Murray, Jordan Matthews. It is his job to turn this offense and defense around, and turn the team from being a disappointment of a franchise into a franchise that can win games and hopefully win the franchises first ever Super Bowl.
