After over 15 years in the NFL, a report came out on Sunday that Peyton Manning is hanging it up and retiring. Manning is going to be making the retirement official in a press conference on Monday.

Manning is coming off a win in Super Bowl 50, helping the Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10, winning his second  Championship.

During his 18 years in the league, Manning has played for Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. He has thrown for 71,940 yards, 539 touchdowns and only 231 interceptions.

Manning holds the NFL record for career passing yards with 71,940 yards, as well as the single season passing yards record with 5,477 yards (which he set during the 2013 season).

Manning holds the record for most 4,000 yard passing seasons with 14, career passing touchdowns with 539, and most touchdowns in a season with 55 which he also set during the 2013 season.

Drafted in the 1998 draft 1st overall by Indianapolis, Manning proved to be a superstar from the second he stepped into the league. Turning the Colts from a laughing stock bottom of the league team, to a team that could contend for the Super Bowl every season. Manning helped the team win the franchise first Super Bowl in 2007, beating the Chicago Bears 29-17.

All went downhill for Manning and the Colts during the 2011 season, Manning did not play a game that season with a neck injury. The team did not respond well without him, ending the season with a 2-14 record, the worst record the team had in the Manning era.

During that offseason, the team cut Manning, letting him become a free agent. This is where he signed a six year deal worth $96 million with the Denver Broncos.

In Denver, Manning proved to everyone that even though he just had surgery, he could still put up franchise quarterback numbers even at his old age, putting up historic numbers during the 2013 season.

Manning deserves to go out on top after winning the Super Bowl last month, and the fact that he did not perform as well this season as he normally does. Manning does not really have anything to prove in the league, the guy already holds every passing record in the book and he has two rings.

Now that Manning is retired, he will have more time to spend time with his kids. He will also have a chance to let his body rest, after the numbers that Manning just put up this past season. Manning is no doubt a first ballot hall of famer in the next few years.
