Manny Pacquiao plans on fighting again in the early part of 2016. He is currently recovering from shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff. Top Rank promoter, Bob Arum, is in the working on Pacquiao’s next bout.
Arum has stated that the fight will be either in February or March. The reason for those specific months is that Pacquiao is running for senate in his native country of the Philippines. The Election is May 9th and he wants to concentrate on his campaign before hand.
Pac-man is coming off a loss to the hands of Mayweather this past May, in a fight that generated a lot of revenue but did not live up to the hype. With Mayweather set to retire, it is more than likely that Pacquiao will be next as he will shift his attention to his political ambitions.
Bob Arum told Espn.com that Pacquiao’s opponent will be hand picked by Manny himself and he has a short list of candidates.
Among those are Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse, Current Welterweight titleholder Kell Brook, and Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez and Pacquiao has had four epic fights in the past and Pac-man has gone 2-1-1 with a sixth-round KO in their last meeting. I’m not sure if a fifth match will generate a buzz like the other bouts did. Although with the sport of boxing in serious need of a quality headline fight, we will see if Pacquiao can deliver in early 2016.
