Despite a lack of playoff success in the Eastern Conference, the Indiana Pacers have contended in nine of the last ten seasons. On Tuesday, it was reported that the team has hired Toronto Raptors assistant Nate Bjorkgren as their newest head coach.
The position, previously held by Nate McMillian, has been floated around to multiple candidates throughout the offseason.
Prior to his tenure with the Raptors, primarily in the scouting department, Bjorkgren served as the assistant coach to the Phoenix Suns from 2016-18. He also served as the head coach to the Bakersfield Jam; the Suns affiliate.
Other candidates for the position included former NBA guard Chauncey Billups, former Houston Rockets head coach Stan Van Gundy, and San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon.
