This past weekend was another struggle for rookie quarterbacks, leaving fans to wonder whether it’s time to panic. In all a slower week for most rookies, here are some of the top performers:
Honorable Mentions: New York Giants DE Azeez Ojulari (3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble), Dallas Cowboys LB Micah Parsons (7 tackles, 1 QB hit, 1 pass defended), Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams (62 all-purpose yards, 1 TD)
3. Los Angeles Chargers CB Asante Samuel Jr.
Samuel has been a bright spot on this Chargers defense and was a key part in their upset win over the Kansas City Chiefs on the road. In all, he logged two tackles and an interception; one of two total turnovers from Mahomes. This season, he has totaled 10 tackles and two interceptions through three weeks.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers RB Najee Harris
Even in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, Harris had his best game of the season so far. He ended with 142 all-purpose yards, catching 14 of 19 targets for 102 yards and adding another 40 yards on the ground. Averaging only 3.1 yards per carry, Harris has offset that below-average figure with a 74.1% catch rate.
1. Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase
For the second time in three weeks, Chase takes the top rookie spot. Chase played a pivotal role to Cincinnati’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, finishing with four receptions for 65 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Since then, his odds at Rookie of Year have skyrocketed to +500; the second-best odds in the league behind New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones.
