On Tuesday morning, it was announced that the NFL and 2K Games have struck a deal in which “non-simulation football game experiences will take place”. The last time an NFL 2K game was produced in 2004; a year in which Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens was on the cover.
The NFL 2K series as a whole went from 1999-2004. The company currently produces popular video games such as NBA 2K and WWE 2K. The NFL has had a deal with Electronic Arts’ EA Sports that has resulted in the NFL Madden series.
“We’re thrilled to be back in business with the NFL in a partnership that will span multiple video games centered on fun, approachable and social experiences,” David Ismailer, president of 2K, said. “It’s exciting to bring together 2K’s expertise in creating award-winning sports games with the NFL’s renowned status as a world-class entertainment and sports organization.”
The video game industry is still thriving, as NBA 2K20 sold more than eight million copies last year. The NBA 2K series has outsold the NFL Madden series in each of the last four years.
