The new record of the quickest to throw 500 strikeouts within the smallest amount of innings is now held by Aroldis Chapman of the Cincinnati Reds, with 292 innings.
The player that used to hold this title was Craig Kimbrel, a closer for the San Diego Padres. Kimbrel earned the record of 500 strikeouts in 305 innings only earlier this season. Chapman completed this new record this past Sunday against the Cleveland Indians. Although the team lost, an aspiring record has now been given to one of their players.
Chapman has an ERA of 1.69 and an average fastball of 99.6 mph, which happens to be 1.6 mph faster than any other pitcher in baseball.
