With the August 1st MLB Trade Deadline approaching, the rumor mill is going to be more active than it has ever been during the season. Here are some of the rumors and speculation going around the major leagues on June 6th, 2016.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post says a source told him that while the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees could be potential partners for an Andrew Miller trade, the Cubs would not move young star Kyle Schwarber to complete such a deal. The reasoning behind it? The New York Mets wouldn’t move their young star in the outfield, Michael Conforto, and Chicago views Schwarber as the superior hitter.
Sherman also did a piece for the New York Post exploring what prospects the Yankees could acquire in the event that they deal one or more of their three back-end bullpen pieces (Miller, Aroldis Champman, Dellin Betances). He also suggests that they could comb the market for other veterans, like outfielder Carlos Beltran and catcher Brian McCann. My own bit of speculation here: The asking price for any of these guys, or others like Michael Pineda or Brett Gardner, may be a young starter with a bit of MLB service time remaining. If you remember in the offseason, the Yankees were looking for a starting pitcher with 0-3 years of MLB service time. Now that they are seemingly out of contention this year, this could be a prime opportunity for them to acquire such a pitcher.
Herny Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle believes that the San Francisco Giants could make a trade for a “complementary player”, but they won’t make a major move at this time. One can only speculate that they would be targeting an outfielder after losing Hunter Pence for two months due to injury. My own speculation: I think it would make sense to get a complementary player instead of breaking the farm for a Ryan Braun or Carlos Gonzalez. I wonder if they try for Alejandro De Aza from the New York Mets. De Aza was supposed to be a fixture in the outfield in Queens, at least for one year, until the team re-signed Yoenis Cespedes. San Francisco might be able to swing a deal for De Aza as a two-month stop gap until Pence returns.
The Arizona Diamondbacks aren’t ready to give up on this season, despite the slow start, chief baseball officer Tony La Russa says. “Now is not that time,” La Russa told reporters after Sunday’s win over the Cubs. “If this was a veteran-laden team and you were trying to win in ’16 only, at some point you would say we’re going to be sellers not buyers. But this is a club that’s put together — and we went to lengths during the off-season — it’s about the next four or five years.”
