MLB Injury Update
Over the course of the past few days, players continuously are getting placed on the DL. Not only does this hurt their legacy, but also can affect their teams spot in the division for the long-run. Here are the latest updates:
Clay Buchholz (Boston Red Sox)
Buchholz hurt his left elbow on Friday night against the New York Yankees, as it was primarily known as “elbow stiffness”. As results came in, the Red Sox pitcher was placed on the DL with a strained flexor muscle in his forearm. Although it’s not clear about the amount of pain Buchholz is currently in, I don’t see this as something to worry about.
Minor Leaguer Brian Johnson will replace Buchholz in the mean time. The injured ace for the Sox will need to come back as soon as the All-Star Break is over, or else I see the Red Sox in a lot of trouble in the near future.
Jason Grilli (Atlanta Braves)
The veteran reliever will now be out for the season for the Braves after a torn left Achilles on Saturday night. The old-timer took a tumble on his way to cover first, and his fall could be foreshadowing the Braves chances at a playoff run this year.
With a 3-3 record and an ERA under 3.00, Grilli has proven himself as a valuable bullpen arm at the least. With the Braves under .500 and 5.5 games back in the NL East, could this be the nail in the coffin?
Dee Gordon (Miami Marlins)
The superstar infielder will not be participating in this years All-Star game, after dislocating his thumb on a slide to first base. As X-Rays appeared negative, Gordon is believed to think that he avoided any serious injury.
With the All-Star Break coming up, there is no reason to think that Gordon wouldn’t be okay by the time it’s all over. Marlins fans should not be worried about his current status, but rather focus on what the team will do in the near future with the Trade Deadline.
