MLB: Are the Houston Astros Legitimate Contenders?

Many say that the Houston Astros eventually will cool down and gradually fall down towards the bottom of the American League West. The problem with that is they are playing like a team that can compete for a World Series Title. Astros currently have the best Record in the American League and have a healthy 5.5 game lead in the AL West. Yes it’s still early and the Major League Baseball season has a long way to go but I’m going to give you a couple of interesting Facts about the surprising Astros.
Houston is 9th in the majors in Runs Scored and 1st in Home Runs, all while having a league poor .229 batting average. Pitching is Top 10 in ERA, saves and quality Starts.
Dallas Keuchel is pitching lights out and is looking like a Cy Young Contender while Jose Altuve is currently playing like the Best Second basemen in the League.Let’s factor in Luis Valbuena has 10 HR’s, and James Marisnick is contributing with the bat and glove playing exceptional baseball.
For the Astros to remain at the top of the Division those players have to continue to produce like they are now. They can always use more pitching and hitting which i think they will address before the Trade Deadline. Now the question is will the Astros trade some of their prospects to go for Gold this year. Im thinking if they continue to lead the AL West by the time it hits the All-Star break they are going to make several moves to ensure that they will be there at the end.
