Miami Hurricanes Fire Al Golden
Miami Hurricanes athletic director Blake James has fired head coach Al Golden after five seasons with the team. The move comes after the team suffered their worst loss in their 90 year history, losing to Clemson, 58-0.
Golden, who went 32-25 in his 5 seasons with the Hurricanes, was the man under much scrutiny after 5 seasons of what can be considered mediocre football. Under Golden, the Hurricanes had no wins against top 25 teams and were 0-3 in bowl games. As well, the team was 0-5 against their major rival, Florida State.
In a statement released by the team, Blake James said: “Coach Golden has led our program through some very difficult times and he has done so with class, integrity and a true desire to see our students succeed on the field, in the classroom and in the community.” James said. “However, we have a proud tradition of excellence at Miami, not just in football but in all sports, and we want to compete for ACC and national championships. I simply believe that now is the time to bring the Hurricane Family together and rally behind our young men.”
Al Golden will be replaced by tight ends coach Larry Scott, who has been with the team for eight seasons.
