Mets’ Mickey Callaway On Hot Seat

After a strong start to the season for the New York Mets, manager Mickey Callaway and the rest of the organization have begun to plummet. Leading up to May, fans around the MLB community would often pitch the Mets’ chances at clinching the NL East.

With All-Star break on the horizon, is there a chance we see Callaway fired from the Mets? While it’s only his first season in New York, the management department has been less than ideal for the Mets. The offense has begun to dry up, while the pitching has gone south as well. With General Manager Sandy Alderson undergoing health issues, not a lot is going the right way for the fans of this beloved franchise.

While the New York Mets continue to look for replacement general managers, Callaway appears to be safe for now. Once the current season is over, we could witness a different story for the rookie manager.

There are plenty of candidates out there, such as Joe Giradi for example, that would turn the Mets into a winning organization. It appears as if the offseason couldn’t come quickly enough for New York. Unless there is an apparent turnaround, both the fans and media will be calling for Callaway’s position soon enough.

The hiring of Callaway is not to blame, as the Mets were deparate to move on from Terry Collins, and got their wish. If New York becomes active at the Trade Deadline on July 31st, the assumption is that the Mets will become sellers.

As for Callaway, what is next for him? If you are talking in terms of another managerial gig, it may take awhile before he lands on his feet. As aforementioned, the job of Callaway is currently safe, but a strong second half of the season is much needed if he intends on remaining in New York.
