McGregor vs Mayweather Continues to Trend Globally

As most know by now, the five-weight class world boxing champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather (49-0) is set to come out of retirement in order to take on a man who is making his boxing debut. Conor “The Notorious” McGregor (21-3) is a mixed martial arts prodigy, and he currently holds the belts in two weight divisions within the UFC. With the lightweight and featherweight champion belts around his waist, can McGregor mold himself into a well-rounded boxer?

This has been a match made by the fans, according to UFC president Dana White, as most believed that the two fighters would never actually meet in the near future. Will this be the fight of the century? Certainly not. On the other hand, this may be the most talked about sports event in recent memory.

This is not the only time that star MMA fighters have desired to go toe-to-toe with a professional boxer.  Most recently, Anderson Silva expressed his desire to fight Roy Jones Jr.  While this fight never took place, McGregor could potentially be opening the door to more crossover events in years to come.

In May of 2015, Mayweather went up against Manny Pacquiao, in what was expected to be one of the greatest fights in the history of boxing.  Even though it fell short in terms of excitement, the bout brought in over $410 million in revenue.  The money brought in by the two fighters still stands as the most profitable boxing match in the history of the sport.

With McGregor and Mayweather? Expect this matchup to make well over $500 million, shattering previous records in terms of profit.  It won’t turn out to be the closest, or exciting match, but these two global icons will continue to trend until the fight takes place this upcoming August.
