McGregor, Diaz Set To Rematch At UFC 200

After weeks of anticipation, Dana White has announced that Conor McGregor will have the opportunity to rematch Nate Diaz in a welterweight showdown. This event will take place at UFC 200 on July 9th in Las Vegas.

The fight will be contested at 170 pounds, meaning that McGregor will have to work on keeping up his weight. McGregor is currently 19-3 in his UFC career, and is also currently the featherweight champion.

With McGregor accepting his second consecutive fight outside of his weight class, the UFC has decided to place an interim title match between Frankie Edgar (20-4-1) and Jose Aldo (25-2).

The UFC President sat down with ESPN on Wednesday’s edition of SportsCenter to explain how this all came about:

“He was obsessed — obsessed with fighting Nate Diaz again,” White said. “Obviously, Lorenzo and I tried to argue with him and said, ‘Let’s go back to 145 (pounds) and defend your title. Or if you really want the Diaz fight that bad, do it at 155 (pounds).’ He wants the fight at 170.

Is McGregor a fool to fight at 170 or will it have no affect? The UFC 200 card is stacked with fun matchups, but this match will be the icing on the cake.
