Marlins not interested in trading Fernandez
The Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, and 18 other teams were in touch with the Miami Marlins the past couple of weeks to try and make a deal with 23-year old Jose Fernandez. However, team president David Samson made it clear that he wanted to keep Fernandez, but that he will listen to any deals that other teams offer.
Jose missed part of last season due to Tommy John, but he did go 6-1 with a 2.92 ERA in 11 starts. In his career, he has a 22-9 record with and overall ERA of 2.90. Jose is looking to get in a full season of work for the first time in two years before his arbitration year in 2016.
Jose will become a free agent in 2018, but the Marlins look like they will be signing a contract within the next year or two to keep him for a long time. We will see what happens within the next year. Don’t be surprised if he gets traded mid-season to a team that is contending and needs an ace type player to bolster their rotation.
