The transfer saga between Leicester City and Manchester United is finally coming to a close. The two sides have agreed a fee of £85m, plus potential add-ons for defender Harry Maguire to make a move to Old Trafford. The two sides have been in contact for the fee of Maguire for quite some time now, nearly the whole transfer window.
This transfer will see Maguire surpass Virgil Van Dijk as the most expensive defender ever. This leaves many people questioning whether or not he is worth that price tag as Van Dijk has proved his worth for Liverpool. Van Dijk was named the PFA player of the year last season while Maguire wasn’t even named in the team of the season.
Despite the controversy over the price tag the defender offers an immediate upgrade at a much needed position for United. Fans will be pleased due to the fact that defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones should see significantly less minutes.
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers goes on to describe the deal between the two sides as a “great piece of business”. With this deal on the verge of being official it leaves fans and pundits alike wondering, who’s next?
With the transfer window winding down so are Manchester United’s targets. It seems there’s mostly been talk of two other potential transfers coming to Manchester: Bruno Fernandes and Paulo Dybala.
Another familiar name linked with Manchester United. Fernandes has been one of the most consistent names mentioned with United from the beginning of the transfer window. There have been sources that have already called it a done deal on numerous occasions.
All of these confirmed agreements supposedly took place last week, but as we know today we know that nothing has been agreed upon. United have been interested, but nothing has transpired. It seems after Maguire that Fernandes is their hottest prospect. We could see a desperate United side put in a formidable bid soon.
The only problem with signing Fernandes is now competition has entered the race. It is said that Tottenham are in talks with Sporting Lisbon over the player. It is even rumored that Real Madrid have entered the race for the Portuguese midfielder.
The transfer for Paulo Dybala was not on the table until very recently. This is an interesting one because if a deal is done then it is going to be a swap. Romelu Lukaku will go to Juventus and Paulo Dybala will come to Manchester United. This deal is very much alive as the two sides have come to an agreement between the two players offered.
The hold up in the deal is Dybala’s personal terms. United have structured a contract offer to Dybala worth €11m per year + bonuses. However, Dybala is still hesitant because he does not want to see his wages take 25% cut if United fail to make Champions League.
The outcome of this deal is solely dependent on what Dybala wants to do. He has been rumored to prefer to stay at Juventus, but in that same breath it has been said that he has been treated poorly by the club and is upset as a result. The only person that holds the keys to this transfer is Paulo Dybala and everyone is waiting to see what he decides.
