Lucha Underground Season 2 Episode 16 Recap

The show opens with Dario Cueto meeting Councilman Delgado in a bar and giving him payment. Delgado tells Cueto that he’s is being careless and that the police might have someone already in the Temple. Cueto seems skeptical and the Councilman then says that his boss will come to the Temple soon. Dario looks scared and Delgado says “Did you think your brother would get to have all the fun?”, as the segment ends.
Next we have a three-way match between Joey Ryan, Mr Cisco, and Cortez Castro for one of the seven Ancient Aztec Medallions. Cisco and Castro throw Ryan to the outside and begin fighting. Ryan comes back in the ring and rolls up Castro for the win. He then puts his Ancient Aztec Medallion down his trunks.
We then see Catrina and Mil Muertes backstage. Catrina tells Muertes that she has waited almost 200 years for this match with Matanza Cueto, she says that locking Mil in the coffin last year was all a part of her plan to make him stronger so he can face Matanza and put him in a coffin once and for all. Then, she’ll give Matanza the Lick of Death so they can be immortal. As Muertes and Catrina turn to leave, King Cuerno comes out from behind a statue and signals that he’s “on the hunt”.
Next we have a Trios Championship match between the team of Rey Mysterio, Prince Puma, and El Dragon Azteca Jr and the team of Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, and Johnny Mundo. Since Angelico is still out with a “mysterious injury”, Cueto makes Mundo the partner of the remaining members of Team Havoc because that’s just what Dario Cueto does. Team Havoc and Mundo could not get along with Ivelisse and Mundo’s girlfriend Taya especially having issues. Puma hit the 630 splash on Havoc for the win. After the match, Taya attacked Ivelisse from behind.
After a short commercial break, we then had our main event of the evening which was Graver Consequences for the Lucha Underground Championship between The Monster Matanza Cueto and Mil Muertes. This was a hard hitting bout throughout. Both Muertes and Matanza hit each other with everything they had, including a flatliner on one of the coffins and about ten chair shots in a row. At one point Cueto thought he had put Mil in the coffin for good, but Mil just proceeded to punch through its lid.
Catrina hit Dario Cueto with a chair but was attacked by Matanza, and put in one of the coffins along with her stone. Matanza then hit the Wrath of the Gods on Muertes and put him in the coffin for the win. The match wasn’t as good as the first Grave Consequences, but was still a great sequel and a great battle between two monsters. After the match, Dario went to open Catrina’s coffin; but, she had vanished. The faces of death came to get Muertes’ coffin. As they were taking the coffin out, one of the hooded individuals took their hood off and revealed themselves to be King Cuerno.
The show ended with Councilman Delgado getting into a limo to meet with his boss. Delgado told him that Cueto had been informed about his imminent arrival. He then calls his boss “my lord” and we see his boss light a cigar as the show fades to black.
