LSU close to deal with Tom Herman

Multiple reports indicate that LSU and Houston Head Coach Tom Herman are close to a deal, which could be completed Saturday, that would make Herman the new HC at Louisiana State University. Herman reportedly met with LSU officials in Houston on Thursday. Up until a few days ago, it looked as if Herman wasn’t the top priority of LSU, but things have obviously changed. Chip Brown of HornsDigest.com first reported that they were close.

Herman is in his second year at the helm of the Houston Cougars. The Cougars went 11-1 in the regular season, then went on to win the AAC title and the Peach Bowl. Houston is currently 9-2 and playing their final regular season game on Saturday against Memphis.

LSU fired long time coach Les Miles on September 25th and replaced him with interm coach Ed Orgeron. LSU has gone 4-2 under Orgeron and he has become a candidate for the full-time job. However, that now seems unlikely.

It is interesting to note that USA Today’s Dan Wolken reports that Herman wants to coach at Texas University, who have been rumored to be pursuing him in the event the Longhorns fire current HC Charlie Strong:
