Kyrie To Miss Season Opener, Could Be Out Until January
Cavaliers fans might have to get used to Matthew Dellavedova as their starting point guard. According to a report from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, star guard Kyrie Irving is still recovering from the fractured left knee-cap that forced him to miss the last 5 games of the NBA Finals.
Irving was originally given a 3-4 month recovery window, but the Cavaliers are being appropriately cautious with the 23 year-old All-Star. For a young player, Kyrie has an extensive injury history.
Even before his fractured knee, Irving was limited in the 2 preceding playoff series against the Chicago Bulls and the Atlanta Hawks. He went to play 44 minutes in Game 1 of the Finals before getting injured in overtime. The Cavaliers would go on to lose the series in 6 games.
According to the report, Irving could be out until January, and will likely not be available for the Cavs’ season opener against the Bulls on October 27, 2015.
