Kyle Schwarber Out For The Season
He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament in his left knee and is going to be out for the rest of the 2016 season. The Cubs went on to beat Arizona Diamondbacks 14-6 to improve the team’s record to 3-0 to start off the season on the right track.
In 69 games last season, Schawber hit 16 homeruns, 43 RBI, with a batting average of .246. In only his first season in the league, Schwarber put up some really solid numbers, which helped the team make it to the playoffs. Schwarber showed promised for his first season in the league, and a lot of people expected him to put up good numbers this season before the injury.
Even though he only has one season in the majors under his belt, he has potential to become a good player. He has good hitting power and has shown he can drive in many RBIs in a season.
Schwarber is also solid defensively, he has nice speed to go after the ball in the outfield for the out. Give him 2-3 more years to grow, then he will be a fantastic player. Put him in the middle of your lineup, and he will produce great numbers.
In a season where the Cubs were favorites to contend for the division title, this is a blow to the team. Schawber gave the team a young hitter that can hit for power and contact in the middle of the lineup. It will be hard to replace him in the lineup, and someone on the roster will have to step up to replace the production of Schwarber. The Cubs are a pretty decent team with a lot of talent, so this will not hurt the team that much. Expect the team to still win the division at the end of the season.
In a season where he was expected to put up better numbers, this hurts Schwarber. This is his first serious injury in the majors since being called up last season. He will have to rehab well from now until spring training next season, and try to prove to everyone that last season was not a fluke and that he can be a consistent everyday impact player in the major league.
