Kevin Love; Next Star to Opt Out

Monta Ellis of the Dallas Mavericks was one of the recent players to opt out of his contract, but how about Kevin Love? After just one season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the power forward has opted out of his contract for the upcoming season.

On July 1st, Love will be set to be the latest free agent, although the Cavaliers claimed that they hope Love will return next season, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan added that J.R. Smith and LeBron James are expected to do the same thing, stating it as a “complete formality”.

The 26-year old went through growing pains all through the 2015 season, followed by a season-ending shoulder injury in the postseason against the Boston Celtics. Love finished with his lowest shooting percentage (43.4%) and was sent to the bench on multiple occasions in the fourth quarter.

Love may be worth a lot of money to some teams, but will his flaws be taken into account? His value has declined over the last year, so the following offers he may receive could reflect that. Love was set to make $16.7 million next season, so I am sure that he may be looking for an offer around $18 million a year, which is a little too high for his actual value.
