Kansas City Signs Ian Kennedy to a 5 year, $70 Million Contract

The past 2 seasons, the Royals have proved themselves to be legit. First, in 2014 the Royals were an upset, making it all the way to the World Series. Although, they fell short to the SF Giants, good things were sure to come for the Royals.
They didn’t. Great things happened the next season winning the 2015 World Series in dominant fashion, and it was no upset this year. So far in the 2015-2016 offseason they have locked up Alex Gordo,n and brought back Joakim Soria in the bullpen in a flurry of other smaller moves.
Now, they have brought in Ian Kennedy on a surprising 5 year, $70 million contract. The Royals must know what they are doing, as Ian Kennedy went 9-15 last season with a 4.28 ERA, and has really struggled to be the man he was in 2011 when he went 21-4 with a 2.88 ERA with the D-Backs. After not sharing the same success in San Diego or Arizona since then, maybe a change of scenery with Kansas City’s winning spirit, will bring him back to strengths. He definitely fills a hole left by Johnny Cueto. Should be fun to watch how this one plays out.
