Justin Verlander Throws One-Hitter
On Wednesday night, Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander came within three outs from throwing a no-hitter. Verlander has previously thrown two no-hitters in his career.
A ninth-inning double by Chris Ianneta would be the downfall of Verlander’s accomplishment, but he was still impressive overall.
The Tigers would go on to win the game against the Los Angeles Angels by a score of 5-0. Verlander’s heat would only increase as the game continued, marking himself at 97 mph in the seventh and eighth inning.
Another factor that helped Verlander was the teams ability to hit the ball. Home runs by Miguel Cabrera and J.D. Martinez would launch the team to an eventual victory.
The last no-hitter thrown by the Tigers? Yup, still Justin Verlander. The ace threw one back in 2011 against the Toronto Blue Jays. Verlander also came close to pitching a no-hitter against the Angels on July 31st, which would be ended in the eighth inning.
