Justin Thomas Wins PGA Championship at Quail Hollow

Over the past four days, PGA pros have struggled just to stay afloat at the incredibly difficult, and recently renovated, Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 99th PGA Championship, the year’s final major, was an entertaining spectacle from start to finish, which saw Justin Thomas capture the title. However, the golf course itself, seemed to be the star of the show by making even the best golfers in the game look foolish for even attempting to play on it.

The one man who stood above all the rest, was the newly crowned 2017 PGA Champion, Justin Thomas. Thomas’s miraculous final round of three under par, 68, was enough to capture his first major of his career, and cap off a great season which saw him card a 59 in Hawaii, and shoot the first-ever round of 63 (-9) in this past year’s US Open Championship.

The week has also seen some of the craziest shots work out in favor of these pros, much like the video below of Rory McIlory somehow finding a way onto the green from the forest-line. Shot creativity was on full display throughout the week, as Quail Hollow reared its ugly head with several new adjustments to its already legendary course.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have a bit of luck on your side as Thomas’ errant tee shot on the par-5 10th hole hit a tree, only to bounce back onto the fairway. The 10th hole in this final round was especially magical for Thomas, as his final shot on that particular hole was a dramatic putt that lingered on the lip for a few seconds, before it decided to “go home.”

The rest of the 99th PGA Championship leaderboard saw a three way tie for second between Patrick Reed, Louis Oosthuizen, and Francesco Malinari. Further down the board saw noteworthy names such as Hideki Matsuyama and Rickie Fowler tie for fifth, while the person who held onto the lead for the majority of this tournament, Kevin Kisner, ended his final round with a plus-3 74 and a seventh place finish. Kisner simply couldn’t get much to go his way during the final round of play at Quail Hollow as he struggled to find pars during the final nine holes.
As much of a steady hand as Kisner was during the first three rounds of play, this year and this tournament couldn’t have ended any better for Justin Thomas. Thomas will surely view this year as a huge success, and will continue to build off this momentum leading into the World Golf Championships in Shanghai, China.
