Julian Edelman Injured During Patriots Practice

Julian Edelman was just taken off of the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list Monday, but he’s more than likely heading right back to that list.
Tom Curran of CSN New England reports that Edelman walked off the field in disgust and threw his helmet before sitting on a cart to get checked out by a trainer. Curran also stated that the the lower left leg was the concern to the New England Patriots medical staff.
Edelman was on the PUP list to begin camp was because of a second surgery on his left foot this offseason after breaking it and having surgery on it during the 2015 NFL Season. He returned when the playoffs started after missing mostly the second part of that season.
There’s no word yet of how bad this lower leg injury is. It could be anything from a stress fracture to a tear to his achilles. But, as expected, practice continues. It’s not a great development given Edelman’s recent history.
Edelman is a great player, if he’s healthy. He’s a core receiver for the Patriots after going separate ways with Brandon LaFell. Really the only core receiver now is Danny Amendola but that isn’t enough, they need another leader at wide receiver.
Julian Edelman’s 2014 stats were pretty good with 92 receptions, 972 yards, and 7 touchdowns. He’s a great player and the Patriots need him back as soon as possible and hope for the best about his health and leg.
Edelman is a trustworthy player, someone you can look at to do more than he can and follow what he does off the field. He hasn’t gotten in too much trouble, which is a good thing that doesn’t need to change. I think if the Patriots get Edelman back sooner than later with him at 100%, they’ll be a good team with receivers/tight ends. But time will tell, and hopefully Edelman is okay and get back to practicing.
