It was announced today that Philadelphia Eagles running back Jay Ajayi has been placed on injured reserve after tearing his ACL in Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Ajayi had 45 carries for 184 yards and three touchdowns this season, splitting time in the backfield with Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood. He struggled this past week against Minnesota, carrying the ball eight times for only 29 yards. While the Eagles offense has struggled to score points this season, losing their star running back will potentially hold them back even more.
His injury pushes Clement and Smallwood to the front of the backfield depth chart, with rookie Josh Adams likely the third string. This injury may also add to the speculation that the Eagles are looking to trade for Pittsburgh Steelers running back LeVeon Bell, although they would still need to move some cap around to get a deal done. This is also a contract year for Ajayi, so we will see how this injury might affect his offers after the season.
This injury adds on to the Eagles injured reserve list, as Ajayi joins Mike Wallace and Darren Sproles as skill position players who are out with injuries.
