Jaguars Won’t Sign Hardy Despite Workout

As of Thursday afternoon, the Jacksonville Jaguars have confirmed that they allowed defensive end Greg Hardy to participate in a workout for the franchise.

Despite the workout, a source within the team has reported that the Jags have no interest in signing Hardy at the moment, but could consider him an option down the road. According to the source, the Jaguars were interested in his “physical and mental state”.

The 27-year old has 40 sacks within a span of 6 seasons in the NFL. Hardy has spent time with both the Carolina Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys. Hardy spent the first 4 games of the 2015 season suspended due to violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Ever since his return to the NFL, Hardy has not been able to stay out of the spotlight. From stating he would come out “guns blazing”, all the way to making remarks about Tom Brady’s wife, he has turned himself into possibly the leagues biggest villain.

Why the Jaguars? Even though they probably improved the most out of any team this offseason, one thing that the team lacks is a veteran pass rusher. Right now, the franchise currently has Malik Jackson (via free agency), as well as Dante Fowler Jr (who missed all of 2015 with a torn ACL).

This is a risk that the Jaguars should not take. The Dallas Cowboys gave Hardy a second chance, and his ego proved that he wasn’t mature enough for another opportunity in a uniform. The Jaguars will have one of the NFL’s top defenses on paper, so why take such a PR hit by signing someone like Hardy?
