How Much Is Derek Carr Worth?

In the 2014 draft, the Oakland Raiders found a gem in the second round of the draft, selecting Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr, hoping that he can be the quarterback that the team has been searching for.

Two weeks ago, a report came out that the team is prioritizing to discuss a new deal with Carr, but how much is he really worth?

In his rookie season, Carr threw for 3,270 yards, 21 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, with a passer rating in 76.6 in 16 starts. During his rookie season, Carr proved that he has the potential to become the franchise quarterback of the Raiders with the numbers that he put up. Although the team finished in last place in the AFC West with a record of 3-13, there was a lot to be optimistic about.

In a lot of players second seasons, they tend to hit the sophomore slump and not perform as well as they did in their rookie season, but that was not the case with Carr.

In his second season, he threw for 3,987 yards, 32 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, with a passer rating of 91.1 in 16 starts. The team finished that season with a record of 7-9 and placed third in the AFC West.

Carr improved a lot from his rookie to sophomore season. He threw for more yards and touchdowns, and he improved his passer rating as well.

Even though the team was not making the playoffs, they were making a lot of good progress with Carr at quarterback, and the team they built around him.

In the off-season of his third season, a lot of people were expecting the team to make some noise this season, in hopes of challenging the Denver Broncos for the AFC West title.

So far this season, Carr has thrown for 2,505 yards, 17 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, with a passer rating of 99.1 in 9 starts, helping the team to start 7-2 and place first so far in the AFC West.

With Carr heading to the last year of his rookie contract next season, the time is now for the team to sign him and lock him up to a long-term deal. The money will be worth it for the numbers that he has been producing as of late.

Most people will compare his next contract to the type of deal that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck signed during the off-season worth $160 million over six years. It will not be that much, but expect the team to pay him franchise quarterback-type of money.

At the end of the day, Carr deserves to get a huge pay raise from his rookie contract. The question is how much will the team pay in order to keep him in Oakland?

In my opinion, Carr is worth close to more than $100+ million, which is a lot of money, but you need to pay your franchise quarterback like he the QB of the future.
