How McGregor Became the Most Notorious Fighter in UFC History

Since the beginning of his UFC career, Conor McGregor has done everything to be the center of attention, in and out of the octagon. From trash talking, showing off, and his pure skill of first round knockouts, McGregor has certainly earned the nickname “The Notorious”.

Already holding a record of 13-2, McGregor fought in seven bouts before his first loss to Nate Diaz, including victories against Max Holloway, Dustin Poirier, Chad Mendes, and Jose Aldo (for the Welterweight Championship). Despite losing to his rival, McGregor did everything in his power to not just receive a rematch, but prove why he is the most electric individual in the UFC.

McGregor defeated Diaz in a heavily watched bout on August 20th, 2016. By the looks of it, McGregor either wanted to knockout Diaz, or embarrass him throughout the fight. McGregor would go on to win by majority decision.

A fueled McGregor wanted more competition. He received it when he moved up to the Lightweight division in order to face champion Eddie Alvarez on November 12th, at UFC 205. What made this event worth watching was that it was set to take place at Madison Square Garden, and McGregor verbally promoted the event by insulting Alvarez at every chance he got.

McGregor defeated Alvarez in the second round by technical knockout in order to win the UFC Lightweight Championship, and become the first simultaneous two-division champion in UFC history.

At the moment, McGregor is taking time off from the UFC, as he aims to enter the boxing world instead, desiring to face off against the undefeated  Floyd “Money” Mayweather, in a fight where worlds collide.

Currently, the fight is a fans dream match, but it’s been back and forth between the two. If the fight happens, you can expect fans to choose one side or another, as it has the potential to be one of the most entertaining nights in sports history.
