Has the Reigns Boycott Run its Course?

Since the beginning of 2015, most of the WWE universe has had negative feelings towards Roman Reigns, who has really done nothing but try his best to be as dominant as possible within the WWE. After winning the 2015 Royal Rumble, a large portion of the WWE universe has shown little to no support to Reigns, who was written in the story line to win it, defeat the now-retired Daniel Bryan one month later, and face the beast incarnate Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 31. At the end of it all, Reigns was unsuccessful as Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and became the new WWE Heavyweight champion.

After his loss against Lesnar at Wrestlemania, Reigns wouldn’t find success in winning the WWE World Heavyweight title until eight months later, when he entered a tournament for the title. He would go on to defeat the Big Show, Cesaro, Alberto Del Rio, and in the finals, Reigns defeated his former Shield brother, Dean Ambrose, to win it all.

Despite winning, Reigns was cashed in on for the second time in one year by Sheamus, which did not allow Reigns to remain the top dog within the WWE industry.

Just one month later, Reigns went on to defeat Sheamus to end the year off as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. As soon as this occurred, the WWE found their supposed fans boycotting Reigns. In the defense of the WWE, it is seemingly impossible to please the entire wrestling community.

Reigns went on to lose the title in his first ever Royal Rumble for the WWE World Heavyweight title, and it took him three months to win it back at Wrestlemania 32 from one of the biggest stars in the WWE; Triple H.  Reigns defended his title on three occasions, but lost it in his third defense, due to violating the WWE’s Wellness Policy. Reigns was then suspended immediately for thirty days before his match at WWE’s Money in the Bank PPV. Even though Reigns took full responsibility his suspension, the WWE community continued to show him no sympathy.

Months have passed and Reigns has went on to win the WWE United States Championship, and make many successful defenses before losing it in January of 2017. At the moment, Reigns is going through one of the best feuds in 2017 against Strowman, and is set to face Strowman, Samoa Joe, and WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar for the title at Summerslam.

There is a strong possibility that Reigns will walk out as the champion, and even if Reigns has faced the top guys within the WWE, there is still a large chance that the WWE will not give him the respect he deserves. Over the last six years, we have yet to see Reigns win the fans over, and something tells me it won’t occur anytime soon.
