Since signing with the WWE in February, former UFC women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has experienced some heat from the WWE fan base, as well as from the wrestlers in the company who don’t seem to want her to succeed, but rather fail.
Rousey, who was the first ever Bantamweight champion in the UFC, made headlines and received a lot of fame for her jujitsu, quick finishes, and her undefeated record that proved how the hype was real in combat sports.
After suffering back-to-back losses against Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes, it seemed as if Rousey didn’t have her sights set on competing in the octagon anymore, and was rumored to be signing with WWE sometime soon.
This year at the WWE’s annual Royal Rumble event, the company held their first ever women’s rumble match that saw the undefeated Asuka win it, but afterwards, the WWE was shocked to see Rousey appear. In addition, it didn’t like any ordinary appearance, and that was because it was the beginning to her long awaited in-ring debut.
Rousey indeed made her debut at WrestleMania 34, alongside Raw GM and fellow Olympian, Kurt Angle. They went on to defeat Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in what was quite possibly the most entertaining match at the event.
Rousey showed off her judo skills that matched with what the WWE showcases, and it made up for an amazing performance that the crowd in New Orleans and around the world seemed to enjoy.
Professional wrestling and sports entertainment are both very picky with who and what to like. You can have some sport fanatics rooting for Hulk Hogan, but most professional wrestling fans love Ric Flair. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes it isn’t a very beneficial way of thinking. As long as Rousey remains in the wrestling world, she can prove doubters wrong both in the MMA and WWE universe.
