After a brutal loss for Frank Mir at Bellator 212 against Javy Ayala, defeat has become a recent trend for the former champion. Prior, Mir took losses against Fedor Emelianenko, Mark Hunt and Andrei Arlovski.
A journey that has led Mir to historic rivalries and memorable moments in the past is unfortunately coming to an end. Through thick and thin, Mir now holds a record of 18-13.
Even with a recent decline, Mir has held a noteworthy career. Instead of attempting to go out on top, Mir may be better off hanging the gloves up.
Despite the loss on Friday, Mir has left a mark in the octagon over the years. Of his 18 victories, 9 have come via submission, while 5 have been gained through KO/TKO.
With almost 20 years in the MMA business, there is no shame in Frank Mir calling it a career. The 39-year old has paved his way for upcoming talent to follow in his footsteps, which is a merit itself.
