Five Best Signings Over the EPL Transfer Window

We have had a few weeks to recover from the European winter transfer window, with players going all over the place to get game time and play better football. Some of the biggest names in football left for greener pastures, while others returned to their roots. The likes of Philippe Coutiniho moved to Barcalona in a move that has been in the making for months, while others waited until transfer day to make their move. With that being said, let’s look at the five best signings throughout the English Premier League over the winter break.
These are in no particular order.
1. Theo Walcott (Arsenal – Everton)
Everton needed someone to support Wayne Rooney and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the scoring department, and Walcott is just that man. He had an assist in his first game for Everton to go along with his brace against Leicester City within his first four games.
While he didn’t get a whole lot of playing time in the Premier League this season with Arsenal, Walcott was tearing the pitch up in the Europa League. In the five games that Walcott played, he has scored three times and set up another five.
Sam Allardyce had to find a man that supported the current guns, as well as complimenting the revival of Ousar Niasse. Walcott can do both, as well as potentially being another hired gun that can send the Toffees flying up the ladder once again.
2. Alex Pritchard (Norwich City – Huddersfield Town)
This is by far the most debatable, however, you can not ignore that Pritchard is the spark that Huddersfield needed on the pitch. His cameo against West Ham showed that he can just run for days on end, and his performance against Stoke was solid.
Pritchard’s performance against Bournemouth over the previous weekend was his breakout game, scoring the first goal, as well as winning the penalty for Huddersfield’s final goal. Along with Mounie, Pritchard and Mooy all had fantastic games, and if that combination can stay on the field when Mooy returns from injury, Huddersfield may have an attacking threat to build around.
3. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund – Arsenal)
In a rare showcase of financial prowess, Borussia Dortmund sold Aubameyang to the North London Giants as part of a huge merry-go-round of deals just before deadline day. The former Dortmund striker was having a whirlwind season, scoring thirteen goals in just sixteen appearances during the Bundesliga season. Arsenal got rid of Alexis Sanchez, so they had to find a direct replacement.
Aubameyang has only played the two games to date, scoring against Everton before playing the full game against Tottenham. His four goals in the Champions League should equate to success in the Europa League, assuming he gets playing time, so there is going to be plenty of eyes on the Gabonese striker to see how he settles in England.
4. Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal – Manchester United)
Speaking of Alexis Sanchez, the former Arsenal frontman swapped red jerseys as he went from Arsenal to Manchester United. There was plenty of speculation about where he would go, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City all requesting for his services. This is after City had him within their grasp during the summer, before the deal fell through.
We all know that Sanchez can be a game changer within a matter of moments, even with him having a down year (by his standards). Sanchez opened his United account with a goal in their 2-0 win against Huddersfield, and will look to keep putting them away as he tries to help keep United in a Champions League spot. He also has that number seven, which tends to be either a blessing or a curse.
5. Lucas Moura (Paris Saint-Germain – Tottenham)
There is no denying that Moura is one of the best attackers in the world today when he is at his best, so there was plenty of happy Spurs fans when he signed with Tottenham. Moura has not seen the field too much this season at PSG, as the likes of Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani steal the limelight, so a move like this will help all parties.
Tottenham has found themselves a brilliant player who can dive deep into the box and sink them, as well as set them up with ease for the likes of Alli and Kane. He hasn’t appeared just yet for the Spurs since his signing, but look for Lucas to make a huge impact the minute he steps on the field at Wembley.
