Fantasy Football: Intel Report 2.1
Johnny Manziel, Quarterback Cleveland Browns:
Johnny football had a good day in an intrasquad scrimmage, throwing for two touchdowns as well as completing 9 of 11 passes for 93 yards. Manziel commented on his performance, “I wouldn’t make a huge deal about it, but it’s progress for me.” According to sources he seems more confident this year, and has been taking control of the huddle.
Analysis: “Johnny Football” had a rough season last year. Earlier this offseason the Browns had unofficially made Josh McCown the Week 1 starting quarterback. Since making those commitments, Manziel has made some great progress. Only time and play will tell for this franchise, but it looks like Manziel is making a push for the starting role. I believe we won’t know who the Week 1 starter will be until after the preseason, but either way, neither of these guys will be fantasy studs.
Darren McFadden, Running Back Dallas Cowboys: Injuries have been a common theme for McFadden, and they continue. Head Coach Jason Garrett is hopeful that McFadden will be able to return to practice after the first preseason game, and will be out for the preseason opener. During this week he’ll likely work with trainers to nurse the injured hamstring.
Analysis: The best thing that McFadden has going for him is that he comes from Arkansas, and it’s no secret that Arkansas is Owner Jerry Jones’ favorite college. With that being said, it seems that McFadden is being granted every opportunity to make the roster. With injuries holding him out this early, I’m staying away from McFadden, ans I advise you to do the same.
Phillip Dorsett, Wide Receiver Indianapolis Colts: The Colts are keeping their hopes high on Phillip Dorsett. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, “They could not be higher on Dorsett.” Head Coach Chuck Pagano has said “I think they added a superstar to this team, he’s really smart, he’s picked things up, and he looks really good.”
Analysis: That’s good news for the fans. However, this is only good news for owners who have Dorsett in dynasty or keeper leagues. The Colts have a loaded offense, with the addition of Andre Johnson and Frank Gore. According to sources, Dorsett will be battling Donte Moncrief for the third slot in this crowded Colts receiving corps. We’ll watch Dorsett this preseason and let you know where he lands.
