EPL Matchday 27 Takeaways

Matchday 27 of the English Premier League threw up quite a few interesting results, changing the landscape of the Premier League ladder. We had goals galore all over the weekend, with a few results that shook up the relegation battle to it’s core. With all of that being said, let’s have a look at what happened during Matchday 27 of the English Premier League.
Pritchard, Mounie and Mooy star for Huddersfield
Huddersfield managed to get the three points for the first time since Matchday 18, as new signing Alex Pritchard starred for the Terriers. Pritchard scored the opener inside seven minutes, and was a threat all game alongside Mounie. Mounie, who assisted Pritchard for the first goal, got one for himself after an equalizer from Bournemouth. Aaron Mooy, assisting the second goal, starred in the midfield before having to go off with a nasty looking cut that may see the Australian on the sidelines for a few weeks.
The win over Bournemouth allowed Huddersfield to have a very short stay in the relegation zone, moving into 17th place. You would have to think that with Pritchard and Mounie striking a lethal combination up front, Laurent Depoitre may struggle to find game time now. It makes for a decent headache to have if you are David Wagner, although that issue with Mooy leaves the Huddersfield manager with more of a migrane than anything else.
Swansea strikes yet again
In an interesting turn of events, Swansea now has won three of their last four games. Last weekend’s 1-0 win at home to Burnley confirmed their spot outside of the relegation zone, with Ki Sung-Yueng sinking the winner in the 81st minute. With Swansea now undefeated in their last five appearances, you would have to say that manager Carlos Carvahal has worked a miracle in Wales.
The same can not be said for Sean Dyche at Burnley, who could be coming under a little bit of pressure after the loss. Burnley has not won a game in their last ten appearances, scoring only five goals in that stretch. It seems to be an issue that Dyche needs to address, with Burnley now starting to fall into the clutches of the rest of the field. Is it time for the questions to start being asked of Dyche?
Aguero hits four as City smashes the Foxes
Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne essentially ran over the Foxes as Manchester City regained their sixteen point lead at the top of the table. Aguero was a fantasy coach’s best friend as he sunk four goals, while De Bruyne assisted for three and Raheem Sterling sunk one for himself.
It isn’t a horrible situation here for Leicester, who still sit in eighth after the thrashing. It does bode the question though as to whether the Foxes can compete with the big teams on a regular basis. Manchester City is never an easy game, but conceding five goals isn’t a glowing look for the Leicester defense. They will want a rebound game against Stoke City this week to make up for it.
St Totteringham’s Day cancelled
Tottenham won at Wembley against Arsenal. Just over 83,000 fans arrived at Wembley to watch a 49th minute goal from Harry Kane sink the hearts of Arsenal, and it could have been a lot worse if it was not for the saves made by Petr Cech.
The former Chelsea keeper has not had a clean sheet in his last ten appearances, which bodes the question as to whether he is past his prime. The goalkeeper has had a fantastic career, and last weekend proved that he does still have potential if the defense in front of him can help. Every man on a pitch has a clanger every now and then, but the goalkeeper may want to rethink his options if he wants to stay in the Premier League beyond this season.
