All across the MMA world, Eddie Alvarez is someone who can’t stop making headlines when it comes to signing with companies that will give him the toughest fighters on the planet. After a recent loss to Dustin Poirier and an expiring contract, it was time for Alvarez to look at where his future was headed.
According to sources, Alvarez was close to signing with Bellator MMA. After negotiations fell through when Alvarez asked for $1 million per fight on his contract, he instead elected to sign with ONE Championship.
ONE Championship is a Singapore-based MMA company that holds many names, but the fighters that Alvarez will surely be going after are the ONE FC Featherweight and Lightweight champion Martin Nguyen, or the ONE FC Welterweight champion Ben Askren. Those two would both be challenges for Alvarez, but make for must-watch events.
Askren has also competed in Bellator, where he is a former Welterweight champion. He successfully defended it four times before vacating and leaving the company. Askren has been the Welterweight champion of ONE FC since 2014 with 1,500+ days with the strap. The only barrier involves his status with the company, as he remains semi-retired.
Alvarez has all the star power to be the top fighter in any division for ONE FC, and has proven it over the years. With the income and opponents he’ll be facing, this might be a different version of Alvarez who is primed for limitless success.
