Donaldson to Remain With Blue Jays

According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, the Toronto Blue Jays and reigning AL MVP Josh Donaldson have agreed to an extension. The deal is for two years worth approximately $29 million.

Donaldson was expected to go through an arbitration hearing later this month, but it seems like the Blue Jays were willing to do just about anything to avoid that.

The structure of the contract is unknown, but Josh Donaldson has total control of the situation. He will now have three years under his contract until he goes back to another arbitration in 2018.

Was this money well deserved? Just look at the stats. Donaldson has been voted into the top 10 for the AL MVP voting each of the last three seasons, winning it in 2015. On top of that, Donaldson had 41 HRs and a league-best 123 RBIs just this past season.

Will Donaldson repeat those numbers? It seems likely that this superstar could match or even surpass those numbers this upcoming season.
