Missing one game in the NFL due to injury is bad enough, but how about half a season? Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi will miss the first half of the regular season due to a broken rib.

The injury occurred in Thursday’s preseason game. Ajayi would exit the game with 9 rushes for 66 yards. He would also maintain 2 receptions for 37 yards.

Ajayi will now be restricted from playing for the next eight weeks, according to sources. With Ajayi on the IR, the Dolphins had room to sign quarterback Logan Thomas to the 53-man roster.

The fifth-round pick was projected to be a role player when it came to backing up running back Lamar Miller. With Ajayi absent, that leaves Miller, Damien Williams and LaMichael James at the position.
