The Los Angeles Dodgers have had teams within recent years that have, on paper, had the ability to go all the way. However, since 2011, when Don Mattingly was hired as manager, they have not made the World Series, or even out of the first round within the past two seasons for that matter. The two sides mutually parted ways on Thursday.

Mattingly was hired as the successor to the legendary Joe Torre. Mattingly’s team went 446-363 under him, which is a winning percentage of .551 (55%). He has had the opportunity to manage Clayton Kershaw, Matt Kemp and Zack Greinke among others within the last five years.

Sources tell ESPN that Mattingly “wanted to play for a front office and ownership group that had hired him”. Mattingly had one year left on his contract and discussions were civil. Mattingly received an extension over the weekend, however he just perfered to move on.

Sources say the Miami Marlins and “several teams” have interest in Mattingly.
