Dee Gordon Receives Contract Extension

Late Wednesday night, multiple sources reported that the Miami Marlins have signed an extension to their star second baseman, Dee Gordon.

The deal is worth five years with fifty million dollars. This seems like well deserved money considering that Gordon posted one of the best seasons in Marlins history last year.

This deal will now keep Gordon under contract through at least the 2020 season, leaving no questions on who will be the answer at second base anytime soon.

Gordon is now 27 years of age, looking to become the next big thing in the MLB. He was originally dealt in a trade from the Dodgers as part of a seven-player deal at the 2014 Winter Meetings.

Last year, Gordon became the first player since Jackie Robinson to lead the league in batting average (.333) and stolen bases (58).

Gordon doesn’t only show his skill offensively, as he received the Golden Glove in 2015 as well as a Wilson Defensive Award.

With the Marlins adding piece by piece, can they make a push to squeak into the playoffs? It seems like a long shot right now, but when it comes to the MLB, just about anything can happen.
