Danny Ainge, Brad Stevens Receive Contract Extensions

Terms of the contract have not been made public yet, but these men both deserve every penny coming their way. CEO Wyc Grousbeck made a statement earlier Wednesday on the decision:
“A major job of ownership is to find the right people to run the basketball side. We believe we have found them in Danny and Brad. Once you find your people, you need to support them in their efforts and create a work environment that enables them and the team to succeed. If all of that is in place, the topic of extending contracts becomes an easy one, because everybody wants to keep moving forward together.”
Ainge has been part of the organization since 2003, as he was partially responsible for the 2007 championship Celtics roster. That run for the Celtics was the best since their years in the 1980’s. After winning the championship in 2008, Ainge was given NBA Executive of the Year.
How about Brad Stevens? Even though his coaching record is 113-113 and the team is 2-8 in the playoffs with him in control, this Celtics roster was once looked at as one of the worst teams in the league.
Stevens has been able to take a team without any superstars (arguably Isaiah Thomas), and turn the roster into a mid-seed playoff team.
The Celtics organization made the right move by all means, as the team can now focus on the offseason instead of contracts within management.
