Dallas Cowboys among teams inquiring about #1 overall pick
The Dallas Cowboys are one of four teams inquiring about the #1 pick, according to Tony Pauline of Draft Insider. The other three teams are said to be the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Of course, the Tennessee Titans hold that #1 pick. Of these four teams, Pauline states that the feeling around the league is that the Jets do not have the assets to “move that far north”. The Jets sit at #20 in the draft, and making a leap that far is a bit of a stretch.
However, the Cowboys, Eagles, and 49ers are all realistic in terms of trading for the first pick. The Cowboys hold the 4th pick in the draft. They’ve been linked to defensive lineman Joey Bosa from OSU, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dallas move up to grab him.
The 49ers hold the 7th pick and they seem to be in the QB market. Many have linked this team to Cal QB Jared Goff, but it’d be a possibility they move up to get North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz. Wentz is thought of as the best QB in this draft and he may not fall past the Cleveland Browns, who hold the 2nd pick. If Wentz is “their guy”, I’d expect San Francisco to be aggressive in their pursuit of the #1 pick.
The Eagles are in the 8th slot after acquiring the pick from the Miami Dolphins. They are probably looking for a quarterback and want either Wentz or Goff. They could go defense, maybe draft Jalen Ramsey out of FSU, but I think they’re looking for a QB.
Obviously, things change. Only time will tell how things play out from here until draft day.
