On Saturday night at Bellator 238, Cris Cyborg defeated Julia Budd en route to securing the featherweight title. With the win, she becomes the first fighter to win a title in four different promotions. Cyborg previously held a belt in Invicta FC, Strikeforce, and the UFC.
After ending her seven-year career with the UFC, her bout against Budd was highly-anticipated for MMA fans around the world. Her time with the UFC ended over contract disputes, in which Cyborg stated, “Scott [Coker] knows my value. The first important thing for me is respect. The fighters make the events happen. You want a promoter to advance a fighter and not damage your brand.”
Entering the fight, Budd had not lost since 2011, and has only been previously defeated in her career by Ronda Rousey and Amanda Nunes. No other fighter has done what Cyborg has done, as this merit will be jotted down in the history books.
