After missing the early stages of the 2019 MLB season, RP Craig Kimbrel has elected to sign with the Chicago Cubs. The rumors were first reported by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
At the start of free agency Kimbrel was seeking a 3-year deal, the strategy worked with him getting a 3 year deal worth close to $45 million. Last season, Kimbrel recorded 96 strikeouts and 42 saves while maintaining a 2.74 ERA.
After the Cubs lost Brandon Morrow for the season, this turned out to be a much-needed upgrade for the bullpen. Although Pedro Strop was recently brought back from the Injured List, Kimbrel provides an elevation of talent.
The Cubs currently rank 6th in ERA, 15th in opposing batting average, and 28th in saves.
