Contract Talk Updates
With wide receivers Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant holding out in order to receive more money, the clock is winding down before the deadline on July 15th. Here are the latest on the two money-hungry studs:
According to ESPN’s Ian Rapoport, the possibility of Thomas skipping regular season games is not as far-fetched as people make it seem. Thomas is aiming to be paid just around “Megatron money”. In fact, although specific numbers were not given, an offer was made the other day that would make Thomas the second highest paid receiver in the NFL.
With the NFLPA threatening to investigate possible collusion between the Broncos and Cowboys if deals aren’t made in time, the race is on for the two sides to strike a deal quickly. Speculation in the media has stated that there is “still a big gap” between was Thomas wants, and what the Broncos are willing to give.
Dez claims he wants to be a Cowboy for the rest of his career, but could it really be short-lived? Bryant obviously could not be part of another roster this season, but he has clearly stated that he is willing to skip training camp and games in order to get paid more money.
According to Rapoport, a deal was recently offered as of Tuesday to Dez Bryant. Although the guaranteed money and length of the contract is unknown, it has been said that he would be set to make $12.8 million a year. I believe that there is still a long way to go on this one and a deal very may well not get done. Bryant is set on making more money than Calvin Johnson, and Jerry Jones seems a little too stubborn on investing all of that money into one individual player.
