Can Tony Ferguson End Nurmagomedov’s Streak?

Since the end of 2015, UFC stars Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov have been at it for a potential bout. On the contrary, it seems as though every time a contract was signed, an injury would occur. This has now happened twice by Nurmagomedov and once by Tony. After two years, the fight may finally take place.

Last October, Ferguson defeated Kevin Lee to earn the interim Lightweight Championship, and although he was originally scheduled to fight the current Lightweight Champion, Conor McGregor, it never followed through.

Since winning the Ultimate Fighter and signing with the UFC in 2011, Ferguson has only lost one occasion, and that was to Michael Johnson. In return, he has won thirteen times,  with victories over figures such as Edson Barboza and Rafael Dos Anjos.

Nurmagomedov on the other hand has never lost in his career. He has fought and dominated everyone the UFC has put in front of him. From Johnson to Dos Anjos, the Russian has essentially taken over the division.

Khabib was originally scheduled to take on Eddie Alvarez, who pulled out to take on McGregor, but suffered a loss in knockout fashion. Since then, Nurmagomedov has fought for his rightfully deserved title bout, but hasn’t gotten it until now.

If Ferguson can avoid the wrestling skills of Nurmagomedov, it may go down as the most admirable accomplishment of his career. In the past, no one has been able to defeat Khabib, so that would emerge as quite the sight.

For Nurmagomedov, he has the opportunity to finally win the title he has been fighting for. Whether it be McGregor or Ferguson, Nurmagomedov surely contains the ability to take on anyone in his path.
