Can Rory MacDonald Secure Welterweight Title?

On January 20th, Bellator 192’s main event will be Rory MacDonald challenging Douglas Lima for the Bellator Welterweight title. This happens to be a fight MacDonald has wanted for quite some time, as he is looking to secure the Welterweight title before moving up a weight class, as he previously desired when he initially signed with Bellator.

Before signing with Bellator, MacDonald was a huge name in the UFC, as he defeated many top fighters. After his “Fight of the Year” victory against Robbie Lawler for the UFC Welterweight title, MacDonald went on to eventually lose to Stephen Thompson. Following his loss, MacDonald ultimately elected to leave the UFC for Bellator.

Back in May, MacDonald defeated Paul Daley by submission to pull off a dominant debut. MacDonald then expressed wanting to win both the Bellator Welterweight and Middleweight titles to prove that he’s more than a contender.

This will be MacDonald’s fight time going after a title in Bellator, while this will be Lima’s second defense in his second reign as champion. Lima never successfully defended belt during his first reign as champion, although that run lasted a long-lived 455 days.

MacDonald has the skills to not only become a champion, but he may even run the division. Despite leaving the UFC, it could be spectated that MacDonald could return one day and claim the UFC Welterweight title, which would complete his journey of being one of the best Canadian fighters in the UFC.
