Calvin Johnson Left Too Soon
As most are aware, former Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson, also known as Megatron, retired from the NFL a few months ago at the age of 30.
Many questioned if he had left too early, or if this was a plan to come out of retirement and join a contender like persay Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, a yearly Super Bowl championship threat.
Despite all these speculations, Calvin has claimed that his career is over after racking up 11,619 recieving yards, 83 TDs and 731 catches in just 8 years of play.
Drafted back in 2007, Johnson spent all of his career with the Detroit Lions, but only made the playoffs once. In fact, in his rookie season, Johnson and the Lions went 0-16 in the regular season.
At only 30 years of age, Megatron definitely has plenty left in the tank, but he continues to preach that he’s done with football. Even if he came back from retirement, he would still be with the Lions, despite wanting to play with a contender.
His contract is still kept through 2019, so he would have to wait three more years to come back. By then, Johnson would be 33 years of age.
It is time to say that the days of Megatron are over. As much as fans don’t want to let it go, this is nothing new with the retirement of Marshawn Lynch, Peyton Manning, Charles Woodson, and others.
Megatron definitely had plenty in the tank, but his talents were being wasted in Detroit, which is what led to an early retirement.
