On Tuesday night, five days before Survivor Series, we witnessed AJ Styles’s reign of 371 days as WWE Champion end via Daniel Bryan. This was in result of Bryan turning heel and wining the title, which shocked fans who were looking forward to seeing Styles take on Raw’s Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar.

Since coming out of retirement before WrestleMania 34, Bryan has been stuck in a loop of fans not caring for his actions. Bryan needed a change to prove that he is still at the top of his game, and on Tuesday, he grabbed an advantage after landing a low blow before finishing the match.

As great of a face that Bryan was, turning him heel helps out everyone at the end of the day. Smackdown Live! lacks heels currently, and doesn’t have enough to keep feuds interesting. This issue has hurt the overall ratings previously, but with Bryan turning heel, fans have a reason to tune in for weekly entertainment (rather than sitting through a lackluster NBA regular season game).

Bryan is the heel that the WWE needs, as it adds to his character and builds himself up to create moments that reflect upon his old feuds against wrestlers such as the Big Show, Sheamus, CM Punk and Kane.

Bryan is primed to have challengers for the WWE Championship, which includes a variety of superstars. Bryan never “lost” the belt when he was forced to vacate it after earning it at WrestleMania 30. In result, Daniel Bryan is scheduled to aim a new chapter in his career, and the ending will be told within time.
