After a huge win at UFC 200, defeating Mark Hunt by decision, Brock Lesnar was on top of the world after his return fight in the UFC. Life for Lesnar has just turned from good to bad, the UFC has been notified by the USADA of a potential anti-doping violation by Lesnar from a sample collected on June 28th.
In his UFC career, Lesnar has a record of 6-3, winning three matches by knockout, one by submission, and two by decision. Lesnar also held the UFC Heavyweight Championship, winning it in his fourth fight in the company.
Even though he only had 9 fights, Lesnar proved that he could make an impact in the sport of MMA. He has very strong hands, great knockout power, great standup game. He can also take the match to the ground thanks to his wrestling background.
On the UFC side of things, this is bad for the company having one of the biggest draws in company history being tested positive for drugs. It would be surprising if the company allows Lesnar to fight in the octagon again but since it is his first violation, the company might let it slide but that is highly doubtful in my opinion.
On the WWE side of things, this hurts them more than it hurts the UFC since Lesnar is scheduled to face Randy Orton in August at SummerSlam. So now with the news that comes out about Lesnar, what will the company do with him. One thing that the company could do is suspend him and scrap his plans at the show, but the match already has hype surrounding it and it is one of the biggest shows of the year for the company. It would be bad for the show, but it would be the smartest thing the company could do.
This is the statement from the UFC. “The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Brock Lesnar of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection on June 28, 2016. USADA received the testing results from the June 28, 2016 sample collection from the WADA-accredited UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory on the evening of July 14, 2016.”
“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. The Nevada State Athletic Commission also retains jurisdiction over this matter as the sample collection was performed in close proximity to Lesnar’s bout at UFC 200 in Las Vegas. “Consistent with all previous potential anti-doping violations, additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.
